I recently read, well listened, to Steve Martin's audiobook, The Pleasure of My Company.. It's a book written through the mind of a guy with many mental ticks. He's OCD about many things and I found most of the humor to be based in my similarities to this character. Now, I don't have any crippling nuances that hold me back from living life, but I can see how easily I could. From counting ceiling tiles, to wanting everything in life to be even in number. I have to give Steve Martin credit for this piece, as I believe that at least some of these mental ticks have to come from him. In the audio book, which I downloaded from Audible.com if you are interested, Martin himself reads the book. This is the reason, I bought it. I wanted to hear a comedy writer, reading his own work. Delivery is very important in humor, and it was a pleasure to spend a few hours with one of the best.

Steve Martin - The Pleasure of My Company
Steve Martin is the man. I haven't been a fan of his forever, but I do appreciate what he does as a performer and a writer. I remember watching Roxanne as a kid and really loving it. The Jerk is obviously a masterpiece and his work on SNL is classic. However, I didn't come to like him again until I read his autobiography, which gives great insight into his life and how much he was into Magic, and the stage. I respect his work ethic, one I wish I had. I don't write enough, and I definitely don't write enough to justify my belief that I could write better than someone. It's hard writing comedy, or so I've heard. I really only dream of writing it.
